'Looked like someone shot his dog,' The Rock’s business partner reveals Cody Rhodes was supposed to have completely different reaction while giving his WrestleMania spot
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Cody Rhodes finally finished his story when he defeated Roman Reigns  at WrestleMania XL. However, at one point, The Rock was supposed to face Roman Reigns at the Show of Shows. When The Brahma Bull hugged The American Nightmare and “took” his place, Rhodes was visibly disappointed with the decision. Now, the 51-year-old legend’s business partner has revealed that this was not how he was supposed to react.

While speaking on The Masked Man Show, Brian Gewirtz discussed the whole angle between The Rock and Cody Rhodes. He stated that Rhodes was supposed to react completely positively and be a supportive player in the story. However, in his words, The American Nightmare reacted with complete distraught, like his dog had been shot.

Gewirtz further added that it didn’t matter that much in the grand scheme of things. He didn’t blame Rhodes for his reaction and even praised him for being one of the most genuine people out there. In his interview with ESPN just before WrestleMania, he revealed that it was the right call for him to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL.

Cody, it was supposed to be, in some form, ‘Yeah, Fu*kin A! Go get em Rock! You’re going to get your a*s kicked, Roman! Let’s do this!’ and this uplifting promo. Instead, he looked like someone shot his dog in the face in the parking lot. Brian Gewirtz via The Masked Man Show

Meanwhile, after dethroning Reigns at WrestleMania XL, his title run has been going great, to say the least. In his very first title defense, he beat AJ Styles at Backlash in France in front of a jam-packed crowd. At the King and Queen of the Ring PLE in Saudi Arabia, he will defend his Undisputed WWE Title against Logan Paul.

Brian Gerwirtz shed light on whether there will be more social media promos from The Rock

The Rock’s recent run to the company as the evil final boss was praised by the entire WWE Universe. Not only did he come to the shows and wreak havoc, but he also posted several social media messages targeting his WrestleMania opponents, Rhodes and Seth Rollins. Brian Gewirtz spoke about whether fans will witness more of his promos on social media.

In the same interview, Gewirtz stated that he and his team were all happy with how The Rock’s run during WrestleMania turned out. He said that although it won’t be a regular occurrence, The Brahma Bull will be active on social media to interact with fans. Rocky and his team felt this run was more unpredictable and fun than a babyface vs. heel match between the cousins at WrestleMania.

I don’t think it’s going to be a regular occurrence, but I do think it’s going to happen and it’s great because he’s in it, and by extension, I’m in it too. We’re all so happy how this run turned out because it’s a hell of a lot more interesting and fun. Brian Gewirtz via The Masked Man Show

He further added that in this new era, nothing was out of bounds, and Rocky would also want to try new things. His last appearance was on the episode of Raw after WrestleMania XL, where he said that his and Rhodes’ story wasn’t over yet. It will be interesting to see when The Rock will return to the Stamford-based company.
