Contracts for drafted players, as well as undrafted free agents, are a go and a former Illini is getting his skin in the game. Tip Reiman was selected 82nd overall in the 3rd round of the 2024 NFL draft. A truly fascinating storyline from a former walk-on at the University of Illinois. The Sioux Falls native grinded his way up the depth chart in Champaign, to eventually become a starter and team captain for Illinois Football in 2023. After a stand-out NFL draft combine performance, analysts and scouts were highly impressed with the intangibles that Tip can bring to the table. Of course, there is a long road of development ahead for the young man. However, history shows that Reiman will find a way to create value in his play and become a productive part of an offense.
According to NFL analyst Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) the former Illini tight-end has earned quite the haul. Wilson states that Tip will receive $5,789,000, including a $1.03 million dollar signing bonus. Certainly, a heck of a start to the career of a 22-year-old, who previously walked on for the Lovie Smiths staff.
Per Alex Kyi – During the actual combine, Tip was extremely impressive. His hand size and arm length were highly rated amongst tight-ends. Additionally, he ran a super impressive 4.64 40-yard dash. Unofficially, he scored an unofficial 9.93 RAS (relative athletic score) out of 10. That score is 9th amongst tight-ends in the draft. Tip was an impressive blocker as an Illini and that should turn some heads in the NFL. He may struggle as a pass-catcher and route runner, but there is zero doubt that he is an elite blocker.
