Charles Barkley Gives Pelicans’ Zion Williamson Brutally Honest Advice
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Pelicans’ 2023-24 NBA season came to a disappointing close, with the team failing to secure a single win against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Zion Williamson‘s absence due to a hamstring injury significantly affected their struggles.

Despite enjoying the best season of his career regarding durability and availability, Williamson’s hamstring issues resurfaced late in the campaign. This has raised concerns about his ability to maintain physical health and avoid injuries.

During his recovery, Williamson expressed frustration about missing crucial games, saying: “It was super frustrating, especially at that point in the game. But my team, my teammates, they handled business, and here we are in the playoffs, so that’s still exciting. I’m excited for them, and hopefully I’ll be able to return to the court.”

Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, who struggled with weight issues during his playing career, has urged Williamson to prioritize his fitness. “I like Zion a lot… but the sooner he gets in shape, the better he’s gonna be,” Barkley said in a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club ShayShay. “I saw that he lost 25 lbs during the season; you have to do that in the offseason.”

While Williamson deserves credit for his efforts to get in shape this season, his ongoing injury woes cause concern. With his immense talent and athleticism, he has the potential to become one of the greatest players in the game. However, he must find a way to overcome his physical limitations and avoid injuries.

As the Pelicans look to the future, they must address Williamson’s health issues and find ways to support him in achieving his full potential. If not, he risks becoming another “what-if” story in basketball.
